Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Valery Kharlamov is a legend of Soviet hockey. He was an idol of several generations of Soviet players and fans and he was definitely one of the most talented players in the history of the game. An auto accident claimed the Hall-of-Famer's life back in 1981, prematurely ending the story of his hockey accomplishments. Kharlamov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005, becoming only the second non-NHL player to be named to the Hall (the other being former teammate Vladislav Tretiak). Valeri was loyal to his CSKA Moscow team, spending his entire career in their uniform beginning in 1969 to his death in 1981. Through 14 seasons with the Soviet Red Army squad, Valery collected 293 goals and 214 assists for 507 points in 436 regular season games and was the integral component on 11 league championships. This splendid light mesh Red Army uniform was worn during the mid-1970s by Valeri Kharlamov at the peak of his playing career. The chest displays the team's star holding the hammer and sickle with "UCKA" in Cyrillic below. Additional Russian lettering spells out Valery's surname across the back above his famous number "17". All identifiers are screened onto the shirt, with the Russian manufacturer's label sewn into the lower seam. Wear is quite noticeable and includes a few dozen stick marks and board burns with areas of red and blue board paint transfer. The once-white shirt has darkened and shows staining in areas. Sadly, the light mesh has dried out over the years and has deteriorated in areas, especially on the lower back. Still, a very presentable piece with tremendous historical value! Obtained directly from the family of the late Valery Kharlamov with their signed letter of authenticity.
