Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Team Canada '72 were sharp-dressed men off the ice, and amazing as it seems, we have the original prototype sports jacket from which jackets for the iconic '72 Series were designed. And as a capper, below the crested breast is a beautiful and clear signature from Series hero Paul Henderson. Preserved in outstanding condition, the jacket, approximately a size 42, has the gold and white "Canada-Russia 1972" crest embossed on the left breast while on an inside pocket are the initials "EC" for designer Erik Christensen, along with an inside pocket label with the full "Christensen" name and date of production 1-9-72. Only a couple of faint black marks near one of the main buttons keeps this jacket from being flawless. Also included is a vintage 1972 Russian 60" stick labelled in Cyrillic and in unused, wonderful condition. Henderson's signature comes with an LOA. Coming with this package are 11 photos of the blazer and Russian stick, including a shot of Henderson signing the jacket. There’s also a handwritten note from the grandchild of designer Christensen, writing, among other things, that “My grandfather was very proud of this jacket, wore it to the game, and gained great recognition as a designer”. A “Celebration of Life” in 2008 for Mr. Christensen’s passing rounds out this special lot.
