Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Cornwall, Ontario’s Newsy Lalonde starred on both the ice and the field in his day, earning induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Pictured during his time with the Vancouver Lacrosse Club here, Lalonde in fact was named Canada’s outstanding lacrosse player for the first half of the 20th century and reportedly made more money playing lacrosse than hockey! The last numbered card in Imperial Tobacco’s C59 series, card #100 here, with a hint of lettering from another card across the top edge, is technically miscut, along with being off-centered. Crease-free though and otherwise VG-EX or VG-EX+, it is an attractive piece of Canadiana that recalls a time when lacrosse was one of the country's most popular professional sports.
