Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

A four-card panel picturing Wayne Gretzky with long hair, an image Wayne reportedly disapproved of and which prompted a second printing of "Red Rooster" cards in 1981-82, highlights this ensemble which features card sheets from all five years that they were issued. The four desirable Gretz cards were separated from the rest of their sheet and have condition issues, with some scuffing (front and back of first card), light prick marks (second and third), a light bend (third) and a crease and surface scratches (fourth) to be aware of, along with soiling on the back of the first. Scarcity and demand should however outweigh condition here, with further details available on our website. The other first printing sheet from ’81-82 is in nice problem-free condition, as is the second printing sheet that updated the “long hair” sheet, if you follow, with the latter including 11 Gretzky cards – nice! There are then two sheets from four other years; 1982-83, ’84-85, ’85-86 and ’86-87, with no cards being issued in ’83-84. We cannot spot any notable/unsightly flaws amongst the rest, with a total of 28 Gretzky cards, complemented by the likes of fellow Hall-of-Famers Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson and Grant Fuhr, all of whom each appear on five cards in the series. What a dandy opportunity to score all at once!
