Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Clare McKerrow, an excellent lacrosse player who as team captain helped Canada win a gold medal in 1908, is depicted here in his 1910 C59 Imperial Tobacco #48 card, graded by PSA as EX-MT 6. McKerrow was also one of the greatest and most underrated hockey players of the 19th century, playing five seasons with Montreal A.A.A., winning a Stanley Cup along the way both as a player and coach, and influencing a young Lester Patrick with his class and manner. Mr. McKerrow twice notched six goals in a game, in 1897 and again in 1899, with Quebec being on the receiving end of his stellar performances. Unfortunately, no hockey card was ever produced for the great man, but this 1910 lacrosse rookie C59 card is a beauty, a Pop-2 with just 1 graded higher from a field of 10 PSA has examined over the years. Only 12.38% of the 1,066 cards from that set submitted to PSA received PSA 6 grading, in the top 16.6% of all cards submitted from that set.
