Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
From the man who put together the first Montreal Canadiens squad in 1909, and the Habs’ first player, coach and general manager in the team’s inaugural 1910 season, Jack Laviolette, comes Mr. Laviolette’s cufflinks when he was coaching the St-Ann’s Hockey Club in 1918-19 after retiring from the Canadiens the previous season. Engravings on the front read as “1918-19” and “JL” in old script lettering on one and “St. Ann’s HC” with crossed hockey sticks on the other, while the reverse shows “Birks” and “14K” on each. St Ann’s, with Laviolette at the helm, won the Art Ross Cup, emblematic of the Quebec Senior Championship, in 1918-19 and played in the MCHL (Montreal City Hockey League). Measuring approximately ¾” from top to bottom, and wonderfully preserved with only faint surface scratching and the engravings clear are these one-of-a-kind gems from the man deceased in 1960 and inducted into the HOF two years later.
