Lovely 112-year-old antique plate and even older color print features the man who donated hockey's Stanley Cup while Canada's Governor General. Lord Stanley returned home to England in July of 1893 to become the Sixteenth Earl of Derby following the death of his brother. Stanley acted as Mayor of Preston in 1902. This commemorative plate is dated September 1902 and features the red image of Guild Hall with "Earl Derby K.G. Guild Mayor" beneath Stanley's image. The 9 3/8" in diameter ceramic plate has been very nicely preserved overall, retaining its vivid red coloring, and has only slight wear to its gold-colored edging. The colored print measures a large 10 1/4” x 15” and is a wonderful Lord Stanley illustrated creation from Vanity Fair published on May 24th 1879, preserved in wonderful condition with no marks or tears, showing him standing in deep thought.
