Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
The greatest goaltender in Oilers history, Grant Fuhr won the Stanley Cup five times, was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame and saw his number 31 raised to the rafters in Edmonton. Clutch as they came during an era of firewagon hockey, Grant always delivered the big save when his freewheeling teammates needed it most. This photo-matched Fuhr 1985-86 Oilers game-worn jersey with custom-shortened sleeves has the Nike logo screened on the left rear tail. Two flag tags in the neck include a blue Nike size XL with a smaller white tag in front of it with "58 G" handwritten in faint black ballpoint. Action photos of Fuhr offer the match to the black mark on the front of the left shoulder as well as to the distinctive placement of the number "31" sewn on the left sleeve, with the "1" sewn on lower than the "3", and the placement of the two numbers such that they are closer together at the bottom with more space between them at the top. There is a team repair on the back of the right sleeve at the top of the upper white band which displays areas of light red paint transfer, likely from the goalposts. Comes with an Oilers letter with a MeiGray registry number hologram sticker applied to it and a corresponding MeiGray Certificate of Registration. There is a light blue tinge to some areas of the white twill on the Oilers team crest sewn on the front from team laundering.
