Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Originally obtained from the O’Connor family is this great pewter mug awarded to slick forward Buddy O’Connor by the Schaefer Brewing Co. for outstanding player of the game after Buddy had notched 2 goals on January 5, 1949 in a Rangers 3-1 win over Chicago. Standing 5 ¼” high, this mug is inscribed on the side as “H.W.O (for Herbert William O’Connor), Schaefer Award 1-5-49”, while the rim around the glass bottom has, along with hallmarks, “Dunhill, James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, Made in England, and Cornish Pewter”. Condition sees it to have a small dent on the top rim and some small scratching on the body, but all in all has been nicely preserved and is a fine memento from Mr. O’Connor. Buddy broke in with the Montreal Canadiens in 1941 and was with the Habs until the end of the 1947 campaign, after which he would suit up for the Blueshirts from ’47 to ’51.
