Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014

Read all about it! Rare and fascinating 1934 Black Hawks Stanley Cup find is this original New York Daily News broadside poster trumpeting Chicago's first title. "Hockey Champs!" blares the headline beneath a sharp red "Last Minute Photos" header. A goalmouth action scene from Chicago's Cup-clinching double-overtime win over Detroit on April 10 fills the center of the 16 1/2" x 11" broadside, along with a picture of Hawks players gathered around Major McLaughlin and the Stanley Cup. Nicely preserved newsstand treasure put out by the Daily News to "Hawk" some papers the day after the game has a few tears and light stains on the edges. For Your Information: The “NRA Member” logos on either side of the “Pictures from the News, New York’s Picture Newspaper” banner at the bottom of the broadside refer to the National Recovery Administration, a New Deal agency established by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 to confront the Great Depression. Dissolved two years later, the National Recovery Agency has a curious sports legacy to this day because its eagle logo inspired the name of Philadelphia’s 1933 NFL expansion team.
