Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
Matching set of three black leather-bound volumes of "The Trail of the Stanley Cup" that was originally the property of HOFer Max Bentley (ind. 1966, dec. 1984). Only 1,000 copies of the first two volumes were presented to important hockey figures beginning with Volume 1 in 1968, and this set, numbered 152, has a bookplate pasted into the first volume that reads: "Presented to Max Bentley with compliments of the National Hockey League". There were 1,500 examples of Volume 3 produced for the NHL's 60th anniversary in 1977, with the original Clarence Campbell card still enclosed. These highly sought-after books, the definitive work on the game of hockey, are in their original black slipcases and remain in outstanding condition.
