It's Motor City Madness with this collection of 12 Detroit Olympia/Red Wings programs which include 3 issues from the 1940s, 4 from the 1950s, and 5 from the 1960s. This is a fine lot from game nights at the old Detroit Olympia spanning 3 decades, with a handful of Stanley Cup playoffs programs involved, including the 1943 Finals between the Wings and Bruins, the 1948 Wings-Leafs Finals, and the 1966 Habs-Wings Final series when Montreal won the Cup in game 6 of overtime. The programs range from very good to excellent condition. A great stroll down memory lane. The 1943 Olympia program is a playoff Finals edition between the Wings and Bruins, although the middle insert pages are missing. A fold crease runs from top to bottom, and aside from some dirt on a few inside pages, remains in fine condition. Jack Adams graces the cover of the full 31-page program from either game 3 or 4 of the 1948 Stanley Cup Finals between Detroit and Toronto, in which the Leafs would capture the Cup in four games. The middle lineup pages are fastened by just one staple now, and some of the Wings players have been crossed off with pencil. All in all, in nice condition. From Nov. 27, 1949, the Olympia program is complete with all 22 pages intact, from the night Montreal beat the Wings 6-2. This issue is in fabulous condition. On March 15, 1950, the Wings beat the Habs 4-1, and this 22-page program from that night is complete and intact, with a fold crease running top to bottom, and with the score and scores handwritten on the front cover. January 24, 1952 saw the Wings and Leafs skate to a 2-2 tie, and the program from that night is a complete 22-pager, unmarked with some faint creasing a few small stains on some pages. A couple of smaller style 1950s programs are next, measuring 6” x 9 1/4”, with the first, from Nov. 10, 1955 (a 2-2 draw between the Wings and Hawks), showing complete and intact 34 pages, with a few pencil ticks beside various Hawks’ names, and a few more pencil ticks on the Wings home schedule. From Feb. 2, 1956, when Montreal shut out the Wings 2-0 at the Olympia, is a fully-intact 38-page program, with a handwritten “1955-56 US-Canadiens” on the cover, along with “Feb. 2” handwritten on page 3. From the 1960s we have a Leafs-Wings tilt on Feb. 25, 1962, fully intact and unmarked, but with some corner creasing and faint water stains. The Jan. 12, 1964 Olympia program has 28 pages complete and intact, with no markings and in very good condition. This issue also comes with an added 1-page typed NHL standings and player stats. Detroit would beat the Rangers 5-3 on this night. From Feb.20, 1965 is a complete 28-page Olympia program for a Wings-Rangers tilt which saw the home team edge the Blueshirts 3-2. This program is complete and fully intact and comes with an insert titled “Red Wing Extra”. This insert shows wear on its edges and the main program overall is in nice condition with just a touch of handling evident. The May 5, 1966 program, from the Cup-winning game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between Montreal and Detroit, is a complete and intact 32-pager in nice condition but with some handwriting on the back cover and on the teams’ lineups. A fold crease runs down also. Montreal would win 3-2 in overtime when Henri Richard scored, giving the Habs the Stanley Cup. And finally, from Feb. 10, 1968, a program from a game which saw the Wings and Bruins play to a 1-1 draw, a 40-pager complete, intact, and in almost like-new condition.
