Cool NHL Assignment Agreement dated December 31, 1938 with the blue typed agreement detailing the assignment of player Murray Armstrong to the Syracuse Stars (also known as the Salt City Hockey Club) of the IAHL from the Toronto Maple Leafs, his first of 4 NHL teams he would suit up with during his career. Leafs owner and HOFer Conn Smythe has signed in clear black fountain pen on behalf of the Leafs, as has Syracuse coach Eddie Powers. This document measures 8 1/2" x 9" and has been trimmed a couple of inches at the bottom but doesn't affect the content. Two normal folds and a spot of ink in the bottom let corner are to note also. Murray Armstrong would play for the Leafs, NY Americans, Brooklyn Americans, and Detroit Red Wings during his big league playing days, and as a side note, Armstrong was demoted by the Red Wings in 1946 after an 18-year old named Gordie Howe was called up. Eddie Powers’ career saw him as coach of the Toronto St. Pats, Boston Tigers of the CAHL, and Syracuse, and later on he would join the Leafs as assistant coach in the early-40s. The trophy for leading scorer in the OHL is named the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy. And of course Conn Smythe, inducted into the HOF in 1958, is one of the most legendary builders the game has known.
