The Montreal Canadiens paid big money to get Jean Beliveau in their lineup and that investment delivered a huge return in 1955-56 when Le Gros Bill was named the NHL's Most Valuable Player. Big Jean won the Hart Trophy as the league's MVP and was named the center on the NHL's First All-Star Team in addition to claiming the Art Ross as the leading scorer with 88 points, including a career-high 47 goals. The towering center scored 12 playoff goals to tie teammate and fellow Habs icon Maurice "Rocket" Richard's record and Montreal won the first of five straight Stanley Cups as Beliveau got his named on hockey's ultimate prize for the first of a record 17 times! This historic engraved platter is the one that was presented to Jean Beliveau to commemorate the first of his two Hart Trophy wins. "Souvenir of the Dr. David A. Hart Trophy Presented to the National Hockey League 1923 For the Player Adjudged to be Most Valuable to his Team Won By Jean Beliveau Club de Hockey Canadien Inc Season 1955-1956" is engraved in the middle of this magnificent silver-plated platter. It measures 27" x 15", including the handles on both ends, and "Rideau Plate" is stamped on the reverse. Wonderfully preserved with light surface scratches that do not diminish its display. Comes with Jean Beliveau's signed LOA as well as an 8x10 of Big Jean holding this platter.
