Deceased HOFer Dickie Boon was presented with this Outstanding Sportsmen's Award in 1954 by the Sportsmen's Association of Montreal. Boon captained the Montreal AAA to Stanley Cup wins in 1902-03, then formed and managed the Montreal Wanderers dynasty that won the Cup four times from 1906-10. He was elected to the HOF in 1952 and died in 1961. Lidded box stands just under 2 3/4" high and measures 3 1/2" x 7" with the year and Boon's name engraved along the bottom edge of the cover below an engraved shield atop the center of the lid. Comes with an LOA from the Boon family. The text engraved in the shield on the top cover reads: “British Consols Trophy, Presented by MacDonalds Tobacco Company of Canada, Sportsmen's Association of Montreal, As a tribute to the outstanding sportsmen who have been honoured by the Association”. Below the shield, “Awarded 1954 to R.R. Dickie Boon” is spelled out in large lettering.
The silver-plated copper exterior of the wood box has seen most of the silver worn off from cleaning. The lid is loose where it has become unsoldered from the hinge on the back.
