Ontario-born Arthur Meighen, Canada's 9th Prime Minister who served as the country's leader twice, 1920 and again in 1926, wrote, while en route to Australia and without the advantage of any other books, "The Greatest Englishman of History", a slim, 39-page book about William Shakespeare. This hardcover book, measuring 5" x 7", was written in 1934, copyrighted in 1936, with this edition from 1938, and most importantly has been beautifully signed by Mr. Meighen inside in black fountain pen, dedicating it to "Mr. Aurthur Chambers, Compliments of Arthur Meighen". Mr. Meighen would pass away in 1960 at the age of 86. By all accounts, Meighen was more effective as a cabinet minister debating on the floor of the House of Commons than as the nation's leader, and general consensus says he was a smart cookie who truly loved to speak, and equally loved his Shakespeare. This little book written by Meighen is completely intact, with no tears or marks, and only shows some cover aging and a slight yellowing of pages. A beautiful keepsake indeed, with a marvelous dedicated signature.
