Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

What an amazing golf history lesson is offered with this red leather-bound edition of "The Book of Golf," published by the PGA for "The 9th Biennial British-American Ryder Golf Matches" at Pinehurst in November of 1951. Of course, the autographs spotted while leafing through the informative 128-page volume only add to the appeal and include the signatures of deceased Hall-of-Famers, (year deceased in brackets), Gene Sarazen (1999), Julius Boros ('94), Sam Snead (2002), Paul Runyan ('02) and Patti Berg ('06), along with fellow HOFers Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Kathy Whitworth and Betsy Rawls. Mostly ballpoint signatures appear on pages with group shots, as well as a couple of individual photos, with further details available on our website. A triple-signed page includes a dandy Sam Snead autograph on his headshot photo, while Nicklaus and Trevino signed in the text above – nice! Sarazen autographed his image in a group shot in bold black ink, with Patti Berg’s ballpoint sig close beside, Palmer’s above the photo and Runyan’s on the opposite page, creating an attractive “spread.” Famous golf courses are featured in the “Where Golf is Played” section (a fantastic look back), while other autographs not yet mentioned were penned, like the others, years ago, by Al Watrous (’83), Joe Turnesa (’91), Chick Harbert (’92), Ed Furgol ('97), Marty Furgol (’05), Tom Weiskopf and Ben Davis. A few pages with rather minor tears are to mention, but overall, this likely one-of-a-kind treasure will entertain and please for hours/years! An LOA from Classic will be included.
