Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Well, "Oh Boy" is the obvious way to lead into this story, a tale of the only set of World Wide Gum wrappers from 1949-50 ever assembled! Originating at World Wide's Granby, Quebec plant and around a piece of its OH BOY bubble gum, each wrapper, measuring 2-5/8" by 2-3/16", includes biographical information on an NHL player, in both English and French. Forty-six of the 75 rarities sent to PSA since the company started encapsulating collectibles are present here, with only an unheard of #1 and a similarly unknown player on a #38 wrapper missing for completion. The vast majority are slabbed PR 1, with none higher in their respective "lines" on the PSA Population Report. Exceptions are VG-EX 4 examples of 29-Paul Ronty and 33-Alex Kaleta, the only two wrappers, other than a Gem Mint 10 Roy Conacher example, to have graded higher than FR 1.5. The Conacher here is a 1.5, as are wrappers of 21-Edgar LaPrade and 24-Bob Goldham, with 2-Turk Broda and 8-Bill Ezinicki slabbed "AUTH." Players from all six NHL teams are included, with Hall-of-Famers 3-O'Connor, 4-Abel, 5-Schmidt, 6-Doug Bentley, 7-Lach, 9-Rayner, 10-Jack Stewart, 12-Conacher, 13-Durnan, 14-Watson, 16-Quackenbush, 17-Dumart, 18-Mosienko, 19-Reardon, 20-Kennedy, 21-LaPrade, 22-Lindsay, 26-Max Bentley, 28-Lumley, 31-Bouchard and 36-Brimsek contributing to the star-studded "Ice Stars" lineup and a wrapper of the legendary Bill Barilko also noteworthy. The Number One Finest Set of All Time at PSA, this exceptional and fascinating jackpot will be a blast to check out while chewing your favorite gum!
