Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

It is difficult to fathom a more attractive, more complete set of Crown Brand photos as the exceptional one offered here. Comprised of individual shots of Montreal Canadiens and Maroons players, along with a few stars from other teams and a dozen team photos, the collection is cleverly displayed; mounted on black paper, but not glued, with each photo removable. Condition is overall outstanding, with photos well-placed on beige backings which, for the most part, exhibit only light corner wear. A minority of the mats include light creasing but nothing atrocious, with photos likely not seen by many hobbyists including a gorgeous King Clancy and the three Father Levesque pee-wee group shots. Howie Morenz (quarter-inch tear in the mat), Aurele Joliat, Toe, Babe and others ? they're all here! Canadiens (5) and Maroons (3) team photos and that of Canada's 1936 Olympic team are other highlights with a few neat complements detailed on our website. Crown Brand corn syrup flowed back in the day! The French version of Tommie Gorman’s How to Become a Hockey Star booklet is included in nice EX condition, along with a four-page flyer/pamphlet advertising how to obtain it and the pictures. Very infrequently seen is a paper hockey game “board” or “rink” (10-1/2” x 14”) detailing how to play by listening to radio broadcasts Tuesday and Thursday evenings on Montreal’s CKAC station – neat. Also somewhat fascinating is a 58-page magazine out of Halifax called The Maritime Merchant and which has an image of the aforementioned Gorman book on the cover, along with word on how it and the hockey pictures will help stimulate store owners’ sales of Canada Starch products. Dated January 30, 1936, it’s in lower grade but still yet another swell piece to conclude this fantastic collection.
