Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Surely the largest amount of 1950s Montreal Canadiens pencils ever assembled and offered, this phenomenal stash of 20 features ten Hall-of-Famers(!) and several un-catalogued examples, including Jacques Plante and Dickie Moore. Fellow HOFers are the Richard brothers, Harvey, Beliveau, Geoffrion, Bouchard, Olmstead and Johnson, with Curry, Leclair, Marshall, McKay, McNeil, Mosdell, Provost, St. Laurent, Talbot and Turner also present. So is a tear-free EX cardboard "sleeve" reminiscent of the outside of a cigarette pack. Never-sharpened pencils exhibit light to moderate toning but superb, difficult-to-ask-for-nicer, (except for two commons), non-faded red, white and blue player images. Some darkening of the erasers is also to mention, but overall, this ensemble is the likes of which may not come around again. Produced by the Dixon Pencil Co. of Newmarket, Ontario, they were issued in 1955-56 and '56-57, when the Habs were priming!
