Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
An exceptional, second-to-none example of Chuck Gardiner’s 1933-34 Canadian Gum rookie card offered here is sure to excite goalie, high grade and pre-war enthusiasts alike, with Gardner that same ’33-34 season leading the NHL with ten shutouts before backstopping the Black Hawks to their first Stanley Cup! Gardiner also won the Vezina Trophy, played in the NHL All-Star Game and was selected to the NHL’s First All-Star Team, but died from a brain hemorrhage in June of 1934 at age 29. This riveting card is joined by just one other EX-MT 6 Gardiner RC atop the PSA leader board. In the history of PSA there have been just 52 cards out of the close to one thousand submissions (all players combined – 963 as of August, 2013), that have received a higher grade than 6. Good luck in securing this tantalizing card.
