Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
These first two volumes of The Trail of the Stanley Cup were presented to longtime Associated Press hockey editor-writer Ben Olan, an Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award HHOF honoree in 1987. A definite prerequisite to any important hockey library, author Charles Coleman's first two leather-bound tomes commissioned by the NHL encompass the history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy, with Vol. 1 covering 1893 to 1926 and Vol. 2 from 1927 to 1946. Only 1000 copies of these special editions were presented by the league to important hockey figures with this set presented to Olan numbered 634. These highly sought after books remain in splendid condition. Olan, whose work earned him the Pillar of Achievement from the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, has signed in blue ballpoint at the bottom of the NHL scroll with his name on it that is glued inside the front cover of Vol. 1.
