Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Sensational, rare and revealing Stanley Cup Finals memorabilia is from Game 1 of the 1920 best-of-five series between Seattle and Ottawa, played March 22, 1920 at Ottawa's Dey's Arena. The Senators, on a Jack Darragh goal, edged the Mets 3-2 and would claim Lord Stanley's silverware with Darragh scoring a hat trick in the decisive fifth game, played in Toronto because of poor ice conditions in Ottawa. Twelve-page program is just under 6" by 9", features thin cardboard stock covers and has been preserved remarkably well with no unsightly creases. A punch hole in the upper left corner affects all pages, while the original owner's name is penned on page 3. It informs, get this, that NHL rules (six men aside) and Pacific Coast rules (seven) would alternate! Cooper Smeaton is listed as referee, while an intriguing article by Tommy Gorman (pictured) chronicles Stanley Cup competition and all challenges up until that point. A team picture of the Senators in street clothes and defensemen referred to as "point" and "cover point" on the lineup centerfold is also catching. What a dazzling catch this will be!
