Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Talk about a rarity - here's an item few of you will have ever seen, from a very significant season in Chicago Black Hawks history. For a few years before they began producing standard yearbooks available to the general public in 1960, the Black Hawks issued in very limited numbers for exclusive Press use a simple media guide on mimeographed paper. Given how few were created, and their paper quality, only a handful are known to still exist. This historic example is from the 1957-58 season, when Chicago began to assemble the pieces of a winning team after years of struggle. One of those was goalie Glenn Hall, acquired prior to the season from Detroit, and another was an 18 year old rookie whose late addition to training camp resulted in his profile page being added as an insert. Robert "Bobby" Hull is described as "the youngest Black Hawk ever to skate onto a big league rink", and it's reported that "a great many experts have already tagged Hull for future greatness." How right they were. This ultra-scarce guide is in splendid EX/NM condition, including the Hull page.
