Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2013
Inducted posthumously into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1963, original Chicago Black Hawks owner Major Frederic McLaughlin guided his team to Stanley Cup wins in 1934 and 1938. Having chosen to name his NHL expansion team after his army unit, McLaughlin wore his patriotism on his sleeve. This vintage American Legion Chicago Police Department Citation of Recognition was presented to McLaughlin, dated April 5, 1943, less than two years before his death from heart disease in December 1944. The citation, which spells McLaughlin’s first name “Frederick”, displays to about 10 1/4" x 7 1/2" within a beige matte mounted in a 14 1/4" x 11 5/8” wood frame.
