Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Historic and massive trophy is Patrick Roy's signed 1986 Stanley Cup Finals Sport Magazine Most Valuable Player Award. Montreal's 20-year-old rookie goaltender played every minute of the Canadiens' run to the 1986 Stanley Cup, including all five games in the final against Calgary. Roy made a spectacular save on Steve Bozek with 14 seconds left in Game 5 at the Saddledome to secure the Habs' 4-3 win, Patrick's 15th in 20 playoff games. In addition to winning the Conn Smythe Trophy and hoisting the Canadiens' 23rd Stanley Cup, Roy was presented with this impressive and heavy Sport Magazine MVP Award. Featuring a CCM Tacks hockey skate completely encased in a silvery coating on the top, this original trophy stands 26" tall overall, including a 10 1/2" tall black base that is 11 3/4" wide on each side at the bottom, tapering to 8" on each side at the top. Silver-colored plaque on the front has the name of the award and "National Hockey League 1986 Stanley Cup Finals, Patrick Roy, Montreal Canadiens" appears on the silver-colored plaque on the front of the base. Roy placed a big autograph in bold silver paint pen on the back side of the base. Part of the proceeds of the sale of this item will go towards the "Fond d'etudes des Remparts de Quebec". Comes with Patrick Roy's signed LOA. There is a partially legible Balfour sticker on the bottom of the base, which has the outline of four round cushion pads in each corner that are no longer present. The very heavy base consists of five tapered layers of wood with a black cover. Some of the black cover is missing on the bottom of the front of the base below the plaque and along the front edge. There are cracks that show in the wood on the front and a crack through the width of the base on the underside, none of which diminish this historic Sport Magazine MVP Award’s display.
