Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

"Win today and we walk together forever" was the message Philadelphia Flyers coach Fred Shero wrote on the Spectrum dressing room chalkboard for his players to contemplate as they got ready for Game 6 of the 1974 Stanley Cup final. They did and, to this day, they do. Extremely rare offering is this 1973-74 Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup trophy, which was presented to bone-crushing defenceman Ed Van Impe. After running away with the West Division title during the regular season, the Broad Street Bullies swept the Atlanta Flames aside in four straight games in the opening round of the playoffs. The New York Rangers proved a stronger test in a seven-game semi-final win as Philly advanced to its first final against Boston. Taking on Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito's Big, Bad Bruins, the Flyers got a key road win in Game 2 when Bobby Clarke scored his second of the game in overtime. Bernie Parent allowed only three goals in three wins at the Spectrum, securing the Conn Smythe Trophy with a shutout in a 1-0 win in the decisive sixth game on May 19, 1974 while Rick MacLeish's first-period goal held up as the Cup winner. The first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup in the post-Original Six era, the Flyers celebrated in style as upwards of two million fans lined Broad Street for the victory parade. Van Impe's Stanley Cup trophy stands 13" tall and it has acquired a wonderful golden patina. "Philadelphia Flyers 1973-74" is engraved on the barrel with the late Shero, GM Keith Allen and owner Ed Snider among the executives listed below. Clarke, Parent and fellow HOFer Bill Barber are among the players listed in three columns including MacLeish, Kelly, Crisp, Kindrachuk, Dornhoefer, Lonsberry, Nolet, Cowick, Taylor, Jim Watson, Ashbee, Dupont, Flett, Bladon, Joe Watson, Clement, Schultz and Saleski. Beautifully preserved trophy with a few small areas of tarnish is signed by Van Impe in marker on the green felt underneath the black round base. Comes with Ed Van Impe's signed LOA.
