When they traded for Gilles Gilbert from Minnesota in May 1973, the Bruins acquired the No. 1 goalie they had been missing since Gerry Cheevers jumped to the WHA. This fantastic Gilbert
1973-74 Bruins gamer is a great goalie jersey with the rare and coveted Bruins' 50th anniversary patch sewn on the each shoulder. Gilles was a big goalie for that era at 6-foot-1 and that is reflected in the size "56" stamped on the Wilson tagging in the back of the neck. There are several team sewing fixes on the back of both sleeves, as the Bruins' equipment staff repaired and reinforced along the stitching of the doubling for the elbow gussets. Another small round team repair is on the back to the right of the number 1. There are red and light brown stains on the right side of the Bruins crest on the front. This awesome game-worn goalie jersey with the very desirable 50th anniversary patches is from Gilbert's first season in Boston, when he and the Bruins fell just two wins short of the Stanley Cup. Comes with an LOA. [red]Addendum; The jersey is now photo-matched to a number of specific threads on the back of the right shoulder as well as to the line of stitching in the white stripe of the hem on the lower right side area. Three high resolution digital pictures will be included with the jersey.[/red]
