Nos Amours! Les Expos and Montreal fell in love in the spring of 1969 when major league baseball came to Canada for the first time ever. Offered here is a magnificent lot of memorabilia from the dawn of the National League expansion team including a program and complete ticket from the Expos’ first home game, a 1969 Expos yearbook, a 1970 team photo in Lucite presented to season ticket holders, a 1971 Expos postcard set and a pair of early 1970s NL game-used baseballs with more details below.
“Opening Game 1969” is printed on the face is printed on the face of a complete children’s bleacher ticket to Jarry Park displayed between two slabs of Lucite with the Expos’ inaugural season home schedule printed on the reverse;
Expos 1969 first home opener game program has “April 14, 1969, first game” written in blue ballpoint on the cover. This inaugural Expos program is essentially complete with only the headshot of team president John McHale cut out and missing. The program exhibits handling with ballpoint notations in the partially detached centerfold scorecard to note;
Expos 1969 inaugural season yearbook features the brilliant and colorful first team photo in the centerfold. This official yearbook is complete and has been nicely preserved despite obvious handling;
Pair of Spalding game-used Feeney NL official baseballs were foul ball souvenirs caught by at Jarry Park by a fan who made French notations in fine red marker on each ball: 1) “(Richie) Hebner foul ball, Pittsburgh 2, Expos 3, Sept. 10, 1971,” etc.; 2) “Ken Singleton foul ball, Expos 6, St. Louis 5, Apr. 22, 1972,” etc.;
1970 Expos team photo measures 3” x 7”, a gift to season ticket holders displayed in a Lucite stand with the team’s players listed on the reverse along with an aerial shot of Jarry Park;
Rusty Staub and Gene Mauch are featured in the set of 27 postcards, each measuring 5 1/2" x 3 1/2", and also featuring the likes of Laboy, Morton, Raymond, Marshall, Hunt, Jones, Fairly, Stoneman, Bailey and Wine, among others.
