The legendary Art Ross is pictured dead center at the head table in this remarkable group photo of the 1938 friendship dinner in his honor at Boston’s Copley Plaza. Ross coached the Bruins to a 30-11-7 mark during the 1937-38 regular season. The 67-point campaign secured first place in the NHL’s American Division, symbolized by the Prince of Wales Trophy at the right end of the head table. The Vezina Trophy on the left end belonged to Hall of Fame goalie Tiny Thompson, who posted seven shutouts and a league-leading 1.80 goals-against-average. Fellow HOFers Dit Clapper, Cooney Weiland and Lionel Hitchman are among the other Bruins players and executives seated at the head table, which is laid out along the right side of the upper part of this “Fay Foto Boston” panoramic photo displayed in a 10” x 20” black wood frame. This fabulous original print with “Friendship Dinner to Art Ross, Copley Plaza, Boston, Mass., April 21, 1938” printed along the bottom remains in superb condition overall and displays absolutely stunning detail. A great piece of Bruins history.
