Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Hockey giants Georges Vezina, Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat contribute here to make for a formidable pre-war lot and exactly three-quarters of the elusive V145-2 card set from William Paterson. We see the Vezina, with a half-inch light crease at the bottom of the actual photo, as G-VG, the Morenz, with two creases and light soiling, as G and Joliat, with a crease and more obvious soiling, as F. Twenty-one others however are easily VG, with a few at VG+ or VG-EX. The group includes #s 5-Hooley Smith RC, 8, 9-Finnigan RC, 10-Connell RC, 11, 12, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 29, 39-Broadbent (VG+), 41, 42, 49-Sprague Cleghorn (VG+), 54-Dye, 55, 57 (VG-EX), 58-Corbeau and 60. Of the Jewish faith and G-VG are 1-Ironstone and 37-Rothchild, along with 30, 34-Munro RC, 40, 50 and 51. Five G examples are 14-Shorty Green, 15, 28, 35 and 56, with 53-Jack Adams and five others at F; 18, 26, 27, 31 and 36. Just two P fillers are present; 6-Nighbor (torn) and 17, with 52-Roach rather narrow, suggesting trimming. A duplicate of 60-Jackson is G-VG, with the cards needed to complete the ensemble listed on our website. Not often offered in such quantity, these desirable treasures are sure to tempt serious pre-war collectors. Cards not present are #s 3, 23, 34, 38, 39, 48, 51, 52, 53, 56, 57, 59, 63, 65, 74.
