Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Wondrous white knit worn at the dawn of his career by one of the best goaltenders of his era, Ed Belfour. Belfour's 484 all-time wins earns the third spot behind Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur. This historic uniform was worn by Ed in 1988-89 while with the Chicago Black Hawks. The Maska Ultrafil tag sits in the collar and the CCM logo is sewn onto the outer rear hem in red/red/black with a screened "Gunzo's" over on the other side. Although it is believed the Hawks stopped wearing sets with "Gunzo's" on the tail in 1987-88, photo evidence from the following season shows players in game action, some wearing uniforms with the screened supplier logo and others without. Given the frugality of the organization, it is not surprising that Belfour would take to the ice during his rookie year wearing a recycled shirt. Ed's number "31" in two-tone tackle twill appears on the back below a nameplate just long enough to hold the letters of his surname. Faint red post paint can be spotted on the back numbers and cuffs and dozens of light stick and puck marks are scattered over the body and arms. Significant rust-colored blood staining appears on the lower front with another smaller spot just above the crest. The lot will come with a digital image from the season showing Ed wearing a jersey with Gunzo's on the tail and number placement that matches up perfectly.
