Incredibly unique New York Islanders game-worn jersey bridges the Long Island-based franchises humble beginnings and the eve of its glorious run of four straight Stanley Cups in the early 1980s. This white mesh #18 gamer was most likely worn in 1978-79 by Eddie Westfall, the Islanders' first captain from 1972-77 who retired at the end of the season. According to our consignor, this jersey was presented to NHL president Clarence Campbell by the Islanders to commemorate the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. The Lake Placid 1980 patch was added to the left shoulder and tagging is consistent with 1978-79 Islanders gamers. Please see our website description for more information about this one-of-a-kind Islanders jersey. “CS Campbell” is spelled out in blue and orange double-twill letters sewn onto a white twill nameplate. The outline of the removed previous nameplate is clearly apparent on the inside of the jersey, which has Size 50 Goodman & Sons and Bill Vanderburg labels sewn into the back of the neck. Obvious game wear shows in black marks on the left sleeve, right breast and front tail. A garter-style fight strap, which is wrapped with bands of vintage white hockey tape, is sewn inside the jersey, attached to the bottom of the “8” in the #18 on the back.
