Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Fascinating late 19th century hockey artifact is an ice polo stick from the 1880s/1890s. This short, one-piece wood stick with a hooked blade was used to play the frozen pond alternative game that was popular until ice hockey overtook it. "Professional" appears in lettering low on one side of the shaft of this solid game-used stick which measures 36" overall. Vintage black tape jobs are intact on the blade and knob, which has a leather strap remnant in the hole at the top. This antique piece has loads of game wear in the form of marks, dings and scratches and makes for a display piece sure strike up a conversation.
