This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Big lot of four vintage wooden sticks includes a trio from the 1880s and '90s used to play ice polo, a cousin of early hockey, and a one-piece hockey stick from the early part of the 20th century. The trio of polo sticks a pair with the "Ivor Johnson Sporting Goods Co., Boston" stamp on the shaft. All four sticks display plenty of wear but retain strong visual appeal.Please see our website description for more information. The Ivor Johnson stamped sticks include one with a vintage black tape handle with a few gouges on the top edge of the hooked blade, and another bare stick with relatively smooth edges;
The third ice polo stick has vintage tape segments from the knob along the shaft and onto the heel and blade, with a pair of nails in the knob, another in the top edge of the heel, and two more low on the shaft where wire is coiled along the bottom of a wide segment of tape. Some of the bottom edge of the blade has worn off towards the heel.
Very faint printing on the shaft of the one-piece hockey stick from the 1910s-’20 appears to read “It’s a Lovell”, to the best of our abilities. This antique stick was retaped at some point with electrical tape along the handle and low on the shaft through the tip of the blade.
