Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Unique and ancient Wright & Ditson stick, transformed by a 19th century sportsman to be used as a goal stick for on-ice polo or hockey matches. The diminutive wooden, curled-blade stick displays a vintage Wright & Ditson, Boston stamping on one side near the blade and the handle, shaft and blade has been customized and reinforced with sections of thick leather, affixed with nails in some cases. The added leather was most certainly meant to add thickness and cushion the blow of careening pucks. Dark toning to the wood adds character and the leather is also well-aged by mostly intact. One of a kind!
