Superb panoramic style advertising piece pitches Black Horse Ale & Porter and features full-body poses of the 1934-35 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Maroons who secured the franchise's second and last Cup title. Backed by goaltender Alex Connell, the Maroons scored narrow playoff wins over the Black Hawks and Rangers before sweeping the Maple Leafs in a best-of-five final, one that saw Connell allow but four goals in the three victories. The Cup, coach Tommy Gorman, Lionel Conacher, Hooley Smith and a young Toe Blake are among those pictured in the 17" by 34" finished piece, including the original wooden frame. Vertical crinkling and creasing must be noted but the coloring is strong and very bold! The frame has the coveted "Brasserie Dawes Brewery" identifier etched into the wood at the top of the frame and highlighted with gold paint. Similarly, "Biere Black Horse Ale" appears along the bottom of the frame below the team photo. A perfect display for hockey and ale historians!
