Historical Hockey Memorabilia Winter 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/22/2012
Trio of Springfield Hockey Association checks bring to mind the legendary stories of Eddie Shore's unorthodox ways of running the Springfield Indians, a minor league team the defenceman bought in 1939 and remained owner of until retiring from hockey in 1976. Notoriously cheap, Shore would have his players help maintain their home rink, sweeping the arena floors, working the box office, changing light bulbs, etc., and would even hold a punitive practice right after a poorly played game! Many players hated him but some credit Shore for teaching them just about everything they know of hockey. Two checks here are from 1964 and the other from '65, with all three featuring big bold flowing Eddie Shore ballpoint signatures. An LOA from Classic will be included.
