Gold and black Bruins number 9 belongs for the ages to Johnny Bucyk. This is the jersey number retirement banner presented to "Chief" by the Bruins when they celebrated his great career on March 13, 1980. Bucyk, who hung up his skates at the end of the 1977-78 season, was honored during a pre-game ceremony at Boston Garden prior to the Bruins' 4-2 win over Detroit, his first NHL team. The Bruins have tastefully acknowledged Johnny's first two seasons with the Red Wings by dating his No. 9 jersey banner "1955-1978" to reflect the entire length of his 21-year Hall of Fame career. Chief, who joined the NHL's 500-goal club in October 1975, became the second Boston sports legend to have his No. 9 withdrawn from circulation along with Red Sox immortal Ted Williams. Spectacular Hub banner features black and gold letters, numbers and accents sewn on a white background. It measures roughly 37 inches in diameter and is displayed on a black matte background, mounted in a 41" square yellow frame. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
