Former Canadiens GM Sam Pollock always mentioned acquiring Frank Mahovlich as one of his favorite/most important trades that helped the team and was no doubt pleased to ink The Big M to a two-year deal a month after the 1971-72 season ended. Long, double-sided one-page NHL Standard Player's Contract reveals Mahovlich made $80,000 in '72-73 and $90,000 the following season, his last before heading to the WHA. Always interesting are the bonus clauses, with $2,500 offered for a top-7 finish in the scoring race (he finished tied for 7th in '72-73 ? did Montreal pay?!), $2,500 if the Habs had 110 points (they posted 120 in '72-73) and $2,500 for scoring a combined 50 goals in the regular season and playoffs (47 was his total for '72-73). Signed on the front by Clarence Campbell and on the back by Pollock and Mahovlich, his last NHL contract deserves an appreciative home.
