This stunning and solid Maurice "Rocket" Richard sculpture was produced in 1999, not long before his death sent the hockey world into mourning. From a series of sculptures produced for fundraising purposes on behalf of the Maurice Richard Foundation, this gold-colored bronze statue evokes a bronze monument unveiled in Maurice's honor a few years earlier. With his legendary number 9 on his back and the Rocket's red glare on his face, the founder of the NHL's 500-goal club cradles the puck on the blade of his CCM stick. Set on a 7x16 diamond-shaped granite base, the sculpture features a bronze sheet of "ice" that includes the Rocket's engraved facsimile autograph, along with "never give up" in English and French. The limited edition number "219/999" is stamped on the "ice" between Richard's skates. A small corporate plaque was added to the front of the granite base, which has small chips along the bottom edge. The original black felt applied underneath the base remains in place, with the adhesive letting go slightly in a few areas. Exquisite piece stands a shade over 9" tall and can be displayed at various angles, all offering a remarkable likeness of the incomparable Rocket.
