Complete three-volume set of "The Trail of the Stanley Cup" includes a leatherbound edition of the third volume which comes with its original slipcover. The entire history of the Stanley Cup through 1967 is detailed in the three books that comprise this incredible undertaking published by the NHL. Researched and written by hockey historian Charles L. Coleman, "The Trail of the Stanley Cup" is divided into three distinct volumes, including the first book, which covers the silver bowl's origins from its donation in by former Canadian Governor General Lord Stanley in 1893 through to 1926, the last season that any team outside of the NHL competed for the Cup. The second volume covers the period from 1927 to 1946, an era that began with the peak of the league's first growth period, followed by the challenges of the Great Depression and World War II. NHL President John Ziegler's signed 60th anniversary insert card accompanies the final volume, this one numbered 1111 of 1500, which spans what has become known as the "Original Six" era, from 1947 to 1967, when the six surviving NHL teams - the Boston Bruins, the Chicago Black Hawks, the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs - were the only clubs competing for the Cup.
