Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Tempting pair of pieces for vintage publication collectors, these 16-page programs are from NHL games played at the Ottawa Auditorium in early 1928 when the original Senators hosted the New York Americans and Montreal Canadiens. A "Popular Player Contest" entry form has been cut out and removed from an H. Brouse Jeweller ad on Page 4 of the January 7, 1928 program for the Senators' game against the Americans, otherwise both programs are complete and intact. (The same ad appears in its entirety on Page 6 of the February 28 program from the game against the Canadiens, which has a vertical crease in the middle and a small notch missing from the bottom edge of its front cover.) HOFers Connell, Clancy, Boucher, Nighbor, Denneny and Broadbent are all listed in the lineup of the defending Stanley Cup champion Senators in both programs. Among the HOFers on the visiting teams are Conacher and Simpson with the Americans and the Canadiens' Hainsworth, Gardiner, Mantha, Morenz and Joliat. Fascinating early NHL programs.
