Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Terrific senior hockey memento was awarded to perennial Montreal Royal star center Herbert "Buddy" O'Connor, a Hall-of-Famer who won two Stanley Cups with the Canadiens and who was the NHL's MVP with the '47-48 Rangers. In the spring of '39 O'Connor potted 10 goals and added 10 assists in 13 Allan Cup playdown games, but his Royals came up short against the Port Arthur Bearcats who won the finals 3-games-to-1, taking the clincher 6-5 in overtime. Still with part of its original ribbon, and beautiful blue enamel on the front, the silver medal is stamped "Bailey" and "Sterling" on the back and is engraved "Runner Up - Montreal Royals - 1939 - H. O'Connor." In excellent condition.
