This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Fascinating vintage one-piece stick from the early days of hockey makes for a superb display piece. Dating from the dawn of the 20th century, this remarkable antique is a trophy stick from members of the 1903 Lachute hockey team who would reign the following season as champions of the Lower Ottawa Hockey Association. Fashioned from a single piece of wood, this ancient stick measures approximately 51" from the tip of the blade to the top of the shaft. Vintage black tape remains wound around the knob as well as in the middle of the shaft, which has a crack showing on one side. "Lachute 3 Vankleek Hill HC 0" can be made out written on one side of the lower shaft. Player names written in pencil on the other side at the heel and on the blade include 1904 team captain H. McRae and the McArthur brothers, who were members of the championship squad. This vintage early hockey stick comes with a modern print of the 1904 champion Lachute team photo which displays several members of the 1903 team.
