Superb lot from the inaugural 2008 Winter Classic features Darryl Sydor's game-worn powder blue Pittsburgh Penguins throwback jersey and retro-style Reebok pants shell. The veteran defenseman wore both items during the historic outdoor game between the Penguins and Sabres in front of 71,271 at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium on January 1, 2008, including this #5 alternate captain's gamer which saw active duty during the second period of the Penguins' 2-1 shootout win. "Winter Classic 2008" patch is sewn on the right breast of this tie-neck retro beauty which features the Penguins' early 1970s team crest. CCM size 56 "Made in Canada" Canadian flag fly tag remains in the neck, and the Reebok tag sewn into the inside left seam and the fight strap are intact. Cutting Edge Sports patch sewn in the tail features the Winter Classic 2008 logo and Pens equipment manager Dana Heinze's facsimile signature. A MeiGray NHL Game-Worn Jersey 2007-2008 patch is also sewn inside the rear tail. Sydor wore this Penguins' throwback pants shell throughout the entire game, as well as during the Penguins' outdoor practice on New Year's Eve. A MeiGray registry patch is sewn inside the right front of the pants and "#5, 1.1.08, Pittsburgh" is printed in silver paint pen inside the right rear. As would be expected, neither of these single-use items display any notable game wear. Each piece comes with its respective NHL/MeiGray LOA. Each letter features the registry number which corresponds to the jersey and pants shell, as well as details of the game and the item's use during the inaugural Winter Classic.
