Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Beautiful Baltimore Blades durene, worn during the 1974-75 season during World Hockey Association play. The style has "Baltimore" cascading down the front in orange on white with a two-tone number "4" on the back. The red Rawlings label is the in the tail in size 48. Research shows that the team's white uniforms were made by Rawlings only about four have made it into the hobby. All of the black versions that have been identified to date are made by General Athletic and again, only 4 are know to exist, with this shirt being a fifth. It is believed that Rawlings, having produced the whites for the WHA era, would have also made a black set and this one is the single jersey that has surfaced to date. The style and number was first worn by Brian Molvik in 1973-1974 Baltimore Clippers of the AHL and then by Arnie Brown with the WHA Baltimore Blades in 1974-75 for 50 games and Bill Reed for 11 matches. It was recycled for use by the SHL Clippers and worn at that time by Dan Blaquire. This one is well-washed and worn with a number of material runs and unrepaired holes. The numbers are fraying at the edges and the black material has faded to a dark grey. Two large repair patches show up on the left arm and a pair of lengthy material runs on the back have been sewn up. A toughie! Will come with a letter of authenticity.
