Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

Scarce early Minnesota North Stars jersey worn by team Captain Elmer "Moose" Vasko circa the 1968-69 season. Moose, a towering Chicago Black Hawks veteran defenseman, was picked up by Minnesota in the 1967 expansion draft where he would spend the next two seasons and part of a third. Vasko was given the "C" in his second season, 1968-69, and the outlines of where it once sat on the left breast of this sweater can be easily spotted. Tagged in the hem by Rawlings in size 50, the huge durene knit has the team logo sewn on the chest in two-tone tackle twill and Vasko's number "4" is there on the back and again on each sleeve. Two smaller team repairs show up and swipes of green board paint transfer appear on the lower front. Throw in a handful of stick marks and material pulls and you have the story of the game wear. With the "C" removed, the jersey could also have been worn by Moose for the first few games of the 1969-70 season before he was moved off to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles where he finished his career.
