Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Beautiful blue durene jersey worn towards the end of a brilliant career by Hall-of-Fame blueliner Harry Howell. A stalwart, stay-at-home defenseman, Howell took home the Norris Trophy in 1967, an award "owned" by Bobby Orr for the next eight years running. The classic styling of the New York Rangers number "3" uniform is striking, from the tie-neck to the cascading letters running down the chest. This one is well-worn and is littered with team repairs including a large jumble of stitchwork up on the left breast where it appears an alternate's "A" once sat. A series of small holes can be found on the left shoulder, possibly caused by improper washing. The hem looks to have been shortened slightly and this, along with the "A" removal and the amount of wear and repairs, might mean the shirt was recycled and saw later action down in the minors. Tagging in the lower hem includes the Gerry Cosby label, a size 50 tag and another fly tag in green with "67", the year designation. Accordingly, we believe this one was first worn during the 1967-68 NHL season.
