Bobby Clarke's legacy as the Philadelphia Flyers' greatest player was already well established when he wore this white mesh gamer during the 1980-81 season. Clarke, a three-time Hart Trophy winner in the mid-1970s, led the Flyers to back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in 1974 & 1975. The Flyers were a resurgent force under new head coach Pat Quinn in the early 1980s. Quinn promoted Clarke to playing assistant coach, which means the "C" on the left breast of this magnificent #16 gamer was subsequently added since he was not the Flyers' captain during the 1980-81 season. Registered with MeiGray Vintage, this Clarke gamer exhibits interior pilling, and black marks on the front, back and each sleeve, both of which display board burns. Orange-colored paint transfer appears on both the right sleeve and back of the jersey. SandowSK is screened on the rear hem and the SK fly tag remains in the neck. MeiGray has authenticated the jersey's design and characteristics such as its V-neck collar, team crest, numbers and fight strap as consistent with 1980-81 Flyers gamers, while noting that the nameplate was either restored or reattached. When all is said and done, the numbers speak for themselves: 358 goals and 852 assists for 1,210 points in 1,144 regular season games. Bobby Clarke is the Philadelphia Flyers. [red] Addendum; After further research the Bobby Clarke jersey is from the 1981-82 season. The Flyers wore Goodmans Mesh in 1980-81. They switched to the short style Sandows in 1981-82 when they started wearing the long pants. They also wore Sandows in 82-83 but those had black piping on the shoulders. [/red]
